Reproduction, Pregnancy & Work: Focus on both men and women is necessary

Health & Safety consultation on pregnancy and conception should focus on both men and women

Alongside the risks for women, exposure to solvents, pesticides, certain metals or radiation on the part of the father prior to conception can also have a negative effect on fertility and the outcome of a pregnancy. In absolute terms, work-related physical and psycho-mental factors are more frequently to blame for negative outcomes of pregnancies than chemical factors. However, the consequences of the latter (factors) can be more serious. The work situation of both the man and the woman should be taken into account when advising couples about pregnancy and conception.
